Dropping pounds like they’re going out of fashion

Linda Ihme posed the challenge last winter, and Dave Baxter answered. The proprietor of Leelanau Vacation Rentals promised a free elliptical machine to the employee who could lose the most weight between January 1 and July 1, and all winter and spring the slimmer-trimmer Dave resisted offers of free beer and pizza from his fellow colleagues who wanted to block his road to victory. As of July 1, Dave Baxter had lost a whopping 59 pounds, and is the proud owner of a new elliptical machine.
“Sometimes you just need a big incentive,” says Ihme. “We worked together and that made it easier. I’d encourage other businesses to do the same with their employees.”
