Center Gallery hosts Joe Stewart, Carol Spaulding
Ohio artist Joe Stewart’s love of Leelanau goes public in an exhibition of new work, “Painting the Leelanau Peninsula.” This show opens with a reception on July 26 at 6 p.m. at Center Gallery, 6023 S. Lake St. in Glen Arbor.
Stewart’s oil paintings are a reflection of the changing mood and intensity of light. He works at different times throughout the day to capture light on landscape as it shifts and evolves. “Painting the Leelanau Peninsula” continues through Aug. 1.
Maple City artist Carol Spaulding’s “Garden Palette” will color Center Gallery at Lake Street Studios next. The exhibition of floral still lifes opens Aug. 2 with a 6 p.m. reception.
Spaulding’s exhibition is a survey of the flowers in her garden and the local landscape. In this accessible vegetation she looks for the basics: shapes, lines, movement and color, and translates them using oil paint, gouache, collage and monotype printing techniques.
As part of the exhibition Spaulding will conduct a painting demonstration at Center Gallery on Aug. 4 at 1 p.m. “Garden Palette” continues through Aug. 8.
