Sailing at the Glen Lake Yacht Club since 1941

On July 18-19, the Glen Lake Yacht Club (GLYC) will host the annual Butterfly Nationals sailing regatta, which brings together both junior and adult sailors from all over the nation. This is the third time that the GLYC hosts the event. Both the regatta and GLYC have rich traditions and history, and for decades have played a large part of life “Up North” for hundreds of families.

Three Stand-up guys plan to cross Lake Superior on paddle boards

This July three men, Joe Lorenz, Kwin Morris and Jeff Guy, will attempt something that has never been done—to paddleboard across Lake Superior, the largest, coldest and most dangerous of the Great Lakes.

Leelanau Conservancy announces expansion of Palmer Woods trail system

The Leelanau Conservancy has announced that work to expand Palmer Wood’s Forest Reserve’s trail system is slated to begin at the end of this summer. A professional trail-building company will be hired to lead the design and construction of the first new loop added to the existing network of hiking and ski trails.

Online registration for the M22 Challenge opens Thursday, March 1, at 8 a.m. The annual event is capped at 900 athletes and in the past several years has reached capacity within 15 minutes. This year’s M22 Challenge will be held Saturday, June 9.

Glen Arbor’s choice: the park or the pines?

Work began late this summer to implement the Glen Arbor Park improvement plan which was presented to the township earlier this year and approved by voters Aug. 8. The plan includes removal of many oak trees—some of which have already been taken out—and the two signature pine trees which frame either end of the tennis courts.
