Former Michigan Supreme Court Justice, and longtime Glen Arbor resident Elizabeth “Betty” Weaver has passed on. She was 74. Weaver served on the Supreme Court for nearly 16 years, from 1994 until 2010, and was Chief Justice from 1999 until 2001. Weaver was an adored and respected member of the Glen Arbor community. She lived on the banks of the Crystal River, just east of town.

Leelanau’s ice caves are back. They’re not as gigantic or awe-inspiring as the 2014 ice caves that formed near Gill’s Pier between Leland and Northport, but they have nonetheless garnered the attention of nationwide media. Glen Arbor resident Eric LaPaugh took this video on Feb. 16 of ice caves that had formed in Sleeping Bear Bay, just outside Glen Arbor. The lucky find has attracted free publicity for his company Leelanau Adventures, which offers guided tours of lesser known spots in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
The next Empire Area Emergency Fund concert — which raises money for anonymous local individual in need — will be held on Sunday, March 1, from 4-6 p.m. at Boonedocks in Glen Arbor.
The next Empire Area Community Emergency Fund Concert is Sunday, Jan. 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. and will take place at Llama Meadows Eco Farm Creative Arts Center which is located at the southern most boundary of our service area at 1176 West Street in Benzonia with a featured performance by “Freya”.
Art, wine and small plate delectables will warm the night as the Glen Arbor Art Association, The Homestead, and Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail team up to offer Art From Michigan’s Wine Country on Friday, Feb. 6, from 6-8 pm. Now in its seventh year at The Homestead’s Mountain Flowers Lodge this fun winter event kicks off Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trails “Taste the Passion” weekend. The Friday night GAAA benefit features an art exhibit and sale of work by local artists, wine from Leelanau wineries, and a small plates menu designed by The Homestead’s chef.
