Burian celebrates a decade at Center Gallery

Paintings of Leelanau County’s land and water—as processed through the imagination of Grand Rapids artist Margo Burian—are on display July 21-27 at Center Gallery, 6023 S. Lake St. in Glen Arbor. A public reception opens this 10th anniversary show on July 21 at 6 p.m.

2017 marks the 10th consecutive, Center Gallery exhibition of Burian’s lush, atmospheric oil paintings of the region. The painter’s work is an interpretation of experience and memory, rather than a strict record of natural features and landmarks. She takes liberties with place and nature to move the painting from an accounting to an interpretation. After the initial on-site point of contact with her subject, she then returns to the studio to distill and develop the field notes into works that distinctly speaks to her love of the natural world.
