Traverse Area Recreation and Transport (TART) Trails will hold its first fundraising meeting at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore headquarters in Empire at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 21, for those interested in financially supporting the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, a scenic bicycle trail which TART envisions will one day allow bikers to pedal a 14-foot-wide path along the National Lakeshore, roughly parallel to M-22 and M-109 west of the Glen Lakes, and south to the Leelanau-Benzie county line.

According to TART Director of Development Bob Wick, the meeting itself is not a National Park function, but will be facilitated by TART and led by people who live in western Leelanau County who want to build the trail. Following Monday’s kickoff, subsequent monthly meetings will be held in various locations in both Glen Arbor and Empire.
