Art’s Tavern in Glen Arbor hosts music and poetry with singer-songwriters Jim Crockett, Patrick Niemisto, John Kumjian, and The Beach Bards poetry and storytelling troupe on Sunday, April 30, from 4-6 p.m. Admission is free. Patrons are encouraged to make a good will offering to the Empire Area Community Center for those in the community who have fallen on hard times. The EACC is a 501(c)3 public charity.

Join park rangers and astronomers from the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society at the Dune Climb parking lot Saturday, April 29, from 6 to 11 p.m., for the first Star Party of the 2023 season.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is seeking additional short-term housing for its seasonal workforce. According to Superintendent Scott Tucker, “Our employees make great renters as they all have steady paychecks and successfully completed background checks. These folks are trustworthy, loyal, clean, friendly, courteous… oh wait, wrong list, but you get the point.”
Pianist Tyler Faruzzi, a senior at The Leelanau School, brings music to the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s Main Gallery on Friday, April 28, for a lunch-hour twofer: his take on some pop standards with the Arts Center’s SWIMMING exhibition as the backdrop. The one-hour casual concert begins at noon. It’s open to the public at no charge.
When Eric Nittolo, owner of Nittolo’s Seafood & Pizza in Lake Leelanau, travels to Europe, he brings a family entourage and they eat like royalty, night after night. With each plate, in each city, Eric challenges himself to learn something new, to bring culinary lessons home to Lake Leelanau. Every night on his trips to Italy, Spain and the Baltic countries, Eric took mental notes on how he could incorporate these culinary lessons back home. Now at Nittolo’s you can order a Tuscan wild boar pizza served with smoked mozzarella. And on May 17, a Spanish Tapas lounge will open at Nittolo’s.

All five panels from the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s (GAAC) 2022 Outdoor Gallery exhibition will be available for acquisition. The GAAC is holding an online auction April 25-27. The five-foot square artworks are reproductions of original, acrylic paintings by Carrie Hensel, the Ann Arbor winner of the 2022 Outdoor Gallery competition.
The Northern Michigan Environmental Action Council—an advocacy group which has fought to protect northern Michigan’s environment through citizen action and education since 1980—held its 34th environmentalist of the year award celebration on April 14 at the Milliken Auditorium at Northwestern Michigan College. Leelanau County residents Kate Thornhill, Ty Wessell, and Taylor Moore received awards.
How do artists think, work, and practice? Those questions are explored during Creativity Q+A LIVE, a series of conversations with Northern Michigan artists at the Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC). On Sunday, April 23, at 1 pm Leelanau County artist Angela Saxon talks about her practice with Sarah Bearup-Neal, GAAC gallery manager. The program is free. No reservations are required. Doors open at noon.
A variety of sounds will fill the air during the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s Manitou Music series this year, from piano to saxophones to drums, drums and more drums. The series kicks off April 28 with pianist Tyler Faruzzi, and concludes Aug. 24 with New Music Detroit’s take on chamber music, featuring works by 20th-century composers.
