Glen Arbor Art Association features photographers deJonge and Rabidoux

From Aug. 10-12 the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) will feature photographers Robert de Jonge (Petoskey) and Jeff Rabidoux (Glen Arbor), with an opening reception on Friday from 6-8 p.m. The gallery will be open from noon until 7 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail receives $1.62 million

The Leelanau Scenic Heritage Route Committee, Michigan Department of Transportation, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails, and Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes are proud to announce that the Federal Department of Transportation 2012 Public Lands Highway Discretionary (PLHD) program has awarded $1.62 million for the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail (SBHT). The PLHD funds will be used to construct 3.17 miles of the trail starting at Port Oneida Road and ending at Leelanau County Road 669/Bohemian Road.

Library holds annual Vintage Book Sale

In addition to the tremendous support provided by donors, the Friends of the Glen Lake Community Library have a more than 30-year tradition of supporting Library programs and collections through their annual fundraiser, the Annual Vintage Book Sale. This three-day event is held in mid-August at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. This year the event, which includes gently used and some new items, will run Aug. 8-10:

Our online story yesterday about a poll released by the Derek Bailey campaign that reportedly puts him in the lead one week before the Democratic primary apparently ruffled a few feathers, and raised questions, among Leelanau County Democrats.

Port Oneida Fair held Aug. 10-11

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Superintendent Dusty Shultz is pleased to announce that the 11th annual Port Oneida Rural Arts and Culture Fair will be held on Aug. 10-11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to the many popular demonstrations, animals and exhibits, the fair will be a zero-waste event, will feature a chicken dinner on Friday, and will end with an astronomy party on Saturday night.

New poll shows Bailey in best position to beat Franz

The results in a new poll of 400 likely Democratic primary voters released in mid-July shows Derek Bailey, candidate for the 101st State Representative District, leading his opponent, Alan O’Shea of Manistee, by eight points as the August 7 primary approaches.

Test drive Chevy Volt, Support Heritage Trail

Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail supporters, car enthusiasts and renewable energy advocates will have an opportunity to test drive a GM Chevy Volt on Tuesday, July 31, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor. General Motors, a strong supporter of the Heritage Trail, will make the trip to Glen Arbor with three Chevy Volts to test drive.

Summer Singers perform concert August 7

The Summer Singers, a group of more than 60 local singers directed by new director, Patrick Kuhl of Northport, will perform an all-American concert on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church in Burdickville.
