The first Star Party is Tuesday, April 15, 1:30-5:30 a.m., when participants can view a total lunar eclipse.
The Pathways to Sleeping Bear campaign reached the $2 million milestone in private fundraising. Campaign Co-Chair Carol Quarderer and her husband George shared, “We are thrilled and grateful to hit the $2 million mark in fundraising for the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail. We deeply appreciate the support and generosity of our donors. This beautiful trail will continue to bring many benefits to both our local community and visitors.”
Trail enthusiasts are invited to a Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail Open House on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the historic log cabin in D.H. Day Campground. The federal government shutdown early this morning — forced by the Republican-led House of Representatives who oppose the Affordable Care Act — prompted the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and National Parks across the nation, to lock their gates. The timing here in Glen Arbor is highly unfortunate, as it threatens to stunt our growing shoulder tourism season.

Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear (PHSB) was founded in 1998 in an attempt to halt the demolition of several buildings owned by the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Some 15 years later, the organization continues a partnership with the National Park Service in which its volunteers maintain and restore those buildings.
The pristine water quality of Big and Little Glen Lakes along with the protected shorelines, natural hillsides, turquoise water, and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore being the largest riparian on the lake, it is hard to find a more unique and beautiful lake in the country. Furthermore, this national treasure should be protected so as to keep it in a natural and pristine condition, now and for future generations.
The 15th annual Dune Climb concert will take place Sunday, July 14 at 7 p.m. Imagine a beautiful summer’s evening at the foot of the Dune Climb in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, hundreds of families enjoying their pre-concert picnics and then a musical program provided by artists of national stature: this is the magical mixture which has filled audiences with warm memories every year since the first Dune Climb concert in 1998.
