Renowned watercolor artist offers fall workshop

Press release
GAAAFrankWebb2.jpgDuring the peak of fall color the Glen Arbor Art Association will host world-renowned watercolorist Frank Webb for a four-day workshop, October 7-10, at The Homestead resort north of Glen Arbor.
Sixty years as a professional artist back up Webb’s current activities in painting, lecturing, jurying and writing. As an invited instructor he has conducted hundreds of workshops in 50 states and throughout the world. In 2006 American Artist Magazine listed Frank Webb as one of “20 great watercolor teachers.” Watercolor Magazine interviewed Frank Webb for the summer 2008 issue and stated, “This sought-after artist and teacher considers himself a perpetual art student, an approach that has played no small part in his success.”

Going beyond the usual technical display of watercolor, Webb’s paintings express his interest in the creative concept and design principles. He stresses the importance of seeing, feeling and responding to possibilities while synthesizing realism with abstractionism. Webb covers a broad spectrum of subjects beyond traditional landscapes. His unusually sophisticated and idiosyncratic approach to watercolor is set forth in his three books. In these books he explores design, expression and the philosophy of art. He has also made five instructional DVDs.
Among his more than 100 major awards are included the American Watercolor Society’s Bronze Medal of Honor, the Sisek Award of the Butler Institute of American Art, the Baskerville/Stary Sheets Award of the National Watercolor Society and the Gold Medal of Audubon Artists. In 2000 he received the Philadelphia Water Color Society’s Award for Achievement in the Arts and has earned Master Status with the National Transparent Watercolor Society.
Webb has represented the American Watercolor Society in international exhibitions in Canada, New York, England, Scotland, Mexico City, and has been included in invitational exhibitions in China and Australia. Collectors of Webb’s art include: Butler Institute of American Art, Baylor Collection, Tweed Art Museum of the University of Minnesota, Palmer Museum of Penn State University, Taiwan Art Education Institute, The Lakes Art Center, and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.
The four-day October workshop will include demonstrations of Webb’s techniques, painting with individual instruction from Webb, daily critiques of student work, a meet and greet with the artist, and an evening lecture by the artist. The workshop will be held at The Homestead resort and a discounted room rate is available for registered students. For more information on the October workshop contact the Glen Arbor Art Association at (231) 334-6112 or visit www.glenarborart.org.
