Park’s Treat Farm gets facelift

From staff reports

The first volunteer project will make significant repairs, including replacing rotted sills, by a group of skilled PHSB volunteers. Volunteers are needed for the second workshop on Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16 starting at 9 a.m. to paint the finish coats. There will also be other jobs including pruning orchards and removing encroaching vegetation around the house. In addition, they will straighten a wall and finish the exterior of the Pig Barn. Volunteers should wear long pants, close-toed shoes, and bring a lunch.

Last year, the organization worked on six outbuildings at the farm located just south of Empire. To access the Treat Farm, take M-22 south of Empire, take a right on Stormer road, and then a half-mile down a two-track into the farmstead. The Park has granted permission to allow a small number of vehicles during the project period. Volunteers may be shuttled up to the farm for minimal impact on the property.
