Northport Energy holds solar celebration
From staff reports
To celebrate Earth Week 2019, Northport Energy is pleased to announce a solar celebration on Saturday, April 27.
The events will feature a tour of seven solar installations in the Glen Arbor-Maple City area between 10 a.m. and noon. Two commercial and five residential solar systems will be available for the public to view. Owners and installer representatives will be on site to discuss the technologies and details.
From 1-3 p.m. at Glen Lake School, Northport Energy will host Dan Worth, clean energy program director at the Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities. Worth will talk about the advance of solar energy in northern lower Michigan. The afternoon program will also feature the Sierra Club documentary film Reinventing Power.
Representatives of the Glen Lake Lakers’ Envirothon team will also attend. All events are free and open to the public.
“We believe Earth Week is the ideal moment to feature and discuss the many attributes of solar energy as it applies to a cleaner and healthier planet,” said Joe DeFors, president of Northport Energy, whose goal is to transform the Leelanau Peninsula into a community 100-percent powered by efficient and sustainable energy sources.
