July 15-19 is Water Week at the Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC). As part of its exhibition “New Views: Water = Life = Art,” the GAAC offers three events that examine water from different perspectives.

On July 18-19, the Glen Lake Yacht Club (GLYC) will host the annual Butterfly Nationals sailing regatta, which brings together both junior and adult sailors from all over the nation. This is the third time that the GLYC hosts the event. Both the regatta and GLYC have rich traditions and history, and for decades have played a large part of life “Up North” for hundreds of families.

For the past 18 summers, Riverside Shakespeare has entertained patrons in Traverse City, Leelanau and Antrim counties with performances of William Shakespeare’s plays. For this 19th season, Riverside Shakespeare will present a modern-day take on “The Merchant of Venice” set in Venice Beach, Calif.

The 21st annual Artists’ Market will be held at the Old Art Building in Leland on Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature more than 80 art booths on the lawn, on Cedar Street and inside the building.

The sky is the limit at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Join park rangers and astronomers from the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society (GTAS) on Saturday, July 14, at the Dune Climb parking lot.

The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is pleased to announce a very special book signing with Gijsbert van Frankenhuyzen, illustrator of the children’s books The Legend of Sleeping Bear and S is for Sleeping Bear Dunes on Thursday, July 12. The book signing will take place at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center, 9922 Front Street, Empire, MI 49630 from 10-11 a.m.

The Bay Theater of Suttons Bay has announced a kids’ movie series with showtimes all summer long. Bring your friends, family and neighbors for cool, family-friendly, summer entertainment. Showtimes are Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3 p.m.

This July three men, Joe Lorenz, Kwin Morris and Jeff Guy, will attempt something that has never been done—to paddleboard across Lake Superior, the largest, coldest and most dangerous of the Great Lakes.

Leelanau vintners will hold a Boskydel Tribute on Saturday, July 7, from 6-10 p.m. at Aurora Cellars in Lake Leelanau. The event is a collaboration between Good Harbor Vineyards, Mawby and Bel Lago Vineyards to honor Bernie Rink, pioneer of the region’s wine industry.

After the disappointment of cancelling due to weather last year, the Glen Arbor Art Center’s Manitou Music Festival Dune Climb Concert is back on Sunday, July 8 at 7 p.m. at the popular Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Dune Climb.
