Buddy Greene concert benefits Leelanau Christian Neighbors

From staff reports

Singer, songwriter Buddy Greene will perform at Suttons Bay High School on June 15 in a benefit for Leelanau Christian Neighbors (LCN.) Tickets are on sale now at LeelanauChristianNeighbors.org.

Greene is a legendary country, folk and gospel songwriter/performer who is the co-writer of the Christmas favorite “Mary Did You Know.” The Pentatonix version of the song has been viewed more than 200-million times. Greene has been performing for over 30 years with some of Nashville’s biggest stars. His music has been played by Kenny Rogers, Natalie Cole, Rascal Flatts, Clay Aiken and many more.

Greene initially made his mark as a songwriter, but advanced his career as a renowned harmonica player. He is also a veteran of numerous Billy Graham Crusades including a 1992 event that had him performing to a crowd of 250,000 people at New York’s Central Park.

The concert is one of the biggest fundraisers for Leelanau Christian Neighbors. LCN is supported by a collaboration of area churches and has broad community backing. Its mission is to help people with emergencies in their lives without regard to age, race, gender or religious beliefs. LCN is based in Lake Leelanau and operates a food pantry, emergency financial assistance, baby pantry and a program called “Blessings in a Backpack.” The backpack program provides food for school children to keep them from going hungry over the weekend.

LCN began in 1987 and just last month merged with Samaritans Closet to better coordinate assistance for Leelanau County families in need.

Tickets for the June 15Buddy Greene concert are $20 for adults, $5 for children 18 and under, or $50 for a VIP ticket that includes a reception with Buddy following the concert at VI Grill.
