Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail enjoys best snow conditions of season

From staff reports

Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes’ Kerry Kelly reports that the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail enjoys its best ski conditions of the 2014-15 season, following a grooming on Feb. 4.

About three inches of new snow had fallen over the last couple of days and the groomer crew was out on the trail with the roller to build more base.

The Glen Arbor (Forest Haven Road) to Glen Haven section has a base of about six inches. Classic tracks have been set on the outside of the trail with corduroy between for snowshoers and skate skiers.

The Glen Haven to Dune Climb section has a thinner base (2-4 inches). Classic tracks were set from Glen Haven to the Dune Climb.

The section from Empire to Pierce Stocking Drive has some steep hills and the groomers do not lay classic tracks. The whole trail is corduroy.

The section of trail between the Dune Climb and Scenic Drive has some driveways and steep hills. It has been groomed with a corduroy finish with no classic tracks.
