Lombardo, Burian visit Center Gallery
From staff reports
Ohio artist Joseph Lombardo continues his study of Glen Arbor with a series of new paintings, July 15-21 at Center Gallery, 6023 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor. The show opens with a public reception July 15 at 6 p.m.
Lombardo, an adjunct professor at Columbus College of Art and Design, first visited Glen Arbor in 2009 and executed the first of his Michigan-in-Summer paintings. Through this evolving group of oil paintings Lombardo explores the Leelanau landscape, light, and color as well as its houses, trees, bicycles, farmhouses and night scenes.
As part of his exhibition, Lombardo conducts a demonstration at Center Gallery, July 17, 1 p.m. This demonstration is an opportunity to watch the artist work, and to talk with him about his process and technique.
Paintings of Leelanau County’s land and water — as processed through the imagination of Grand Rapids artist Margo Burian — are on display July 22-28 at Center Gallery. A public reception opens the show on July 22 at 6 p.m.
Burian’s lush, atmospheric oil paintings of the region are an interpretation of experience and memory, rather than a strict record of natural features and landmarks. She takes liberties with place and nature to move the painting from an accounting to an interpretation.” After the initial on-site point of contact with her subject, she then returns to the studio to distill and develop the field notes into works that distinctly speaks to her love of the natural world.
This exhibition continues through July 28. For more information please call 231-334-3179.
