Leelanau Summer Music Fest features Music of the British Isles

From staff reports

The Leelanau Summer Music Festival opens its seventh season this Saturday, June 11, with Music of the British Isles. The concert will take place at 7 p.m. in the former school of Holy Rosary Church in Isadore (near Cedar) and feature Richard Sherman, MSU Professor of Flute and principal flutist of the Lansing Symphony. Sherman will be joined by virtuoso Russian pianist Genadi Zagor in a musical tour of the British Isles.

“I am very excited to bring this duo to Leelanau County to share their artistry” said LSMF artistic director Carl Donakowski. “They are both beautiful musicians and their program of Vaughan-Williams and Delius, among others, promises to highlight their engaging performance style.”

The other concerts of the season are harpist phenomenon Sivan Magen on July 9 and cello/piano duo Carl Donakowski and Zhihua Tang on July 20. Tickets ($20 general admission/$10 student) can be purchased online at mynorthtickets.com or by calling 800-836-0717. Immediately following each concert there will be a “talk-back” session giving the audience an opportunity to talk with the musicians, followed by a reception.

Leelanau Summer Music Festival concerts take place in the beautifully restored, air-conditioned Sala Koncertowa in the former Holy Rosary School north of Cedar. 6982 S Schomberg Rd, Cedar, MI 49621. For more information visit MyNorthTickets.com/events/music-of-the-british-isles.
