Leelanau backs Abdul, Bergman, Barr, Benson, James, and approves millages

In the primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 4, the 46 percent of eligible Leelanau County voters who cast ballots sided with the winners of those races.
Leelanau voters also approved all the township millages put before them.
In the U.S. Senate Democratic Primary race watched around the nation, 57 percent of Leelanau voters chose progressive Abdul El-Sayed over centrist Haley Stevens.
In the Republic Primary for the First Congressional district race, Leelanau voted resoundingly for incumbent Jack Bergman (76 percent). In the Democratic Primary for the First Congressional district, Leelanau favored Callie Barr, who won 60 percent of the vote here.

For Governor, 91 percent of Democratic voters favored Jocelyn Benson (Michigan’s current Secretary of State), and 55 percent of Republicans chose John James (a frequent summer visitor to Glen Arbor).
Leelanau voters also approved the following proposed millages:
• County – Roads and Highways Maintenance and Repair Millage Renewal Proposal (81 percent in favor);
• County – Senior Citizens Services Millage Renewal and Restoration Proposal (79 percent in favor);
• Centerville Township Fire and Ambulance Millage Proposition (79 percent in favor);
• Cleveland Township Fire Department Millage Request (73 percent in favor);
• Elmwood Township Fire and Emergency Medical Services Millage Proposal (80 percent in favor);
• Empire Township Fire and Emergency Medical Services (80 percent in favor);
• Kasson Township Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services Millage Proposal (71 percent in favor);
• Leelanau Township Police Services Millage Renewal (72 percent in favor);
• Solon Township Fire and Ambulance Millage Proposition (67 percent in favor);
• Glen Lake Community Library District Ballot Proposal Millage Renewal (79 percent in favor);
• Suttons Bay-Bingham Fire & Rescue Authority Fire, Rescue and Ambulance Services Millage Renewal (79 percent in favor).
