Here lies your opportunity for relaxation or active recreation, whichever you prefer…our sandy beach is perfect for swimming or sunbathing. The resort is located 1/2 mile (walking distance) from the lakefront town of Glen Arbor and equidistant from 70,000 acres of pristine public wilderness and unspoiled Lake Michigan Sleeping Bear Dunes shoreline. Read an excerpt from Jacob Wheeler’s story, “Eastward ho! Wiesens expand as Glen Arbor grows”, which appeared in the Glen Arbor Sun in May 2011:

“M-22 is all about the northern Michigan lifestyle,” an excited Matt Wiesen says while standing behind the wine counter at his and wife Katy’s new apparel store and tasting room in Glen Arbor. “It’s about a glass of wine on the boat, beaches, bonfires and a laid-back attitude.”
Outside, the town is abuzz. Construction crews and earthmovers hurry to pave a parking lot by Memorial Day weekend on the Wiesens’ new land just east of the M-22 store and across the road from their signature business, Crystal River Outfitters. Next to the canoe and kayak outfitter, customers occupy every seat inside Sue’s Riverfront Deli.

The River was built with Old School Fun in mind to give families another entertainment option besides the bars and restaurants of Leelanau County. Mike & Becky Sutherland and their five kids Fisher, Isabelle, Maggie, Bev and Finn have all put their hearts into creating a fun, safe, and green outdoor park for all ages. Indeed, to witness a grandmother give a high five to her favorite grandson after a hole in one, or a father and daughter talking trash in a heated game of Ping Pong or Giant Chess are all precious memories for us that make it worth the hard work.

Read this excerpt from Jacob Wheeler’s story, “New businesses, faces on the block open their doors,” which ran in the Glen Arbor Sun in May 2008:
No, that’s not an outhouse near the Crystal River, steps from Riverfront Pizza. Don’t do your business in there, canoers. That’s actually Hole 6 of Mike Sutherland’s new mini-golf course, The River at Crystal Bend, where an airborne putt into one of the two openings in the outhouse seat might earn you a hole-in-one (we’re not telling which one). Alright, enough of the potty humor.
Sutherland’s 18-hole mini-golf course, accessible by turning off M-22 at Oak Street by Serbin Real Estate (the old bank), seeks to provide a safe and fun setting where kids can hang out, though the whole family too will enjoy Crystal Bend. And he intends to respect the aura of the wooded, natural setting, with a nod to authentic local history. No pesticides flowing into the river, no flashing lights, bells and whistles or bright paint.

Read this excerpt from Jacob Wheeler’s story, which appeared in the Glen Arbor Sun in May 2008:
“What you learn your whole life comes through your nervous system,” Jessica Carden says. “Why not treat it well?”
“My foundation is asking the body what it needs. I employ a very low-force, and conservative adjusting style.”
Carden admits she faces misconceptions of what a chiropractor does. “It’s not about ‘Bruce Lee maneuvers’. I’m not going to beat you up … even though I grew up playing pond hockey in New Hampshire, and gave my brothers bruises,” she jokes.
The name “Revive” is how people ought to feel after an adjustment, she says. Reinvigorated and renewed. “I want to reintroduce people to themselves. Some worry that [what ails them] will require a huge intervention to fix, but if the body is ready for change, it fixes itself.”
“I want people to leave here renewed and refreshed.”

Feel the history as you navigate your way around the rolling hills of the golf course. The unique structures and windmills have withstood the test of time and now pave the way for a great Northern Michigan golfing experience. This classic C.D. Wagstaff designed golf course reflects the architecture of the first half of the 20th Century. Although Wagstaff may not be as well known as a Ross or MacKenzie, “I never hear of clubs wanting to restore their Joe Roseman or C.D. Wagstaff,” Golf Digest course critic, Ron Whitten, once wrote.

The McCahills of Littleton, Colorado —Tom, Carol, Conor, Megan and Neil — first came to Glen Lake in August of 1986 for a family reunion. They boated the entire week and stayed at the Glen Eden Resort on the north shore. The McCahills returned the next summer to Glen Arbor and have been enjoying water skiing, fishing and boating on beautiful Glen Lake every summer for over 20 years. You might say they “fell in love” with the Leelanau Peninsula. So when they heard the marina that Jack and Marcie Ferris owned and operated for 18 years was for sale, they took it on.

Read this excerpt from Josephine Arrowood’s story, “Narrows Minded: Marina wide open for summer,” which ran in the Glen Arbor Sun in June 2009:

Tom and Carol McCahill, and their three adult children Conor, Megan and Neil hail from Littleton, Colo., but have spent over 20 years vacationing on Glen Lake. Conor recalls, “We started coming to the old Glen Eden resort off Northwood Drive,” on the north shore of Big Glen. Although the property was eventually sold for residential development, the pair cherishes memories of their annual getaway, and the family gatherings that still continue on the lake each year.

Read this excerpt from Pat Stinson’s story, “Students become teachers at The Homestead’s yoga course” which ran in the Glen Arbor Sun in January 2010:

Bending over backward, forward or sideways for her students is a natural state of being for UNION/YOGA Owner-Director Sandra Carden, who will bring her enthusiasm and 12 years of teacher training experience to The Homestead starting Jan. 31, for a 28-day, 200-hour beginning yoga-teacher certification program.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer Sandra space and resources to host her amazing teacher training program,” said The Homestead Spa and Fitness Manager Tara Ziegler, who shared that the resort will offer multiple levels of accommodations and dining for those students who decide to stay overnight instead of commute. “Northern Michigan is so fortunate to have such an outstanding master teacher right here in Leelanau County,” Ziegler enthused. “She is an empowering, inspirational teacher, and her students grow to become phenomenal teachers themselves.”
